About BSAS Complex

The Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad (BSAS) Revitalisation Project is a national heritage initiative to restore and reimagine one of Malaysia’s most iconic civic landmarks at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur.

Completed in 1897, Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad has witnessed defining chapters of the nation’s history, from colonial administration to independence and nation-building. Today, the project marks a new chapter, transforming the site from a historic monument into a living heritage destination that is active, accessible and relevant to contemporary public life.

The revitalisation covers a six-building heritage complex, comprising Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad, the Former General Post Office, Former High Court, Panggung Bandaraya, Former FMS Survey Office and the National Textile Museum. Through sensitive conservation and adaptive reuse, the complex is being prepared to host cultural programmes, exhibitions, events and civic activities.

As part of the Warisan KL initiative, supported by Khazanah Nasional Berhad and implemented by Think City, the BSAS Revitalisation Project returns a national landmark to the people, preserving its legacy while shaping its future.
