Abdul Samad dan Bangunan Pejabat Pos Besar Lama membentuk sebahagian daripada sebuah kompleks sivik bersejarah yang lebih besar, merangkumi enam bangunan warisan di sepanjang Jalan Raja. Kawasan ini pernah berfungsi sebagai nadi pentadbiran dan institusi awal Kuala Lumpur, dan sehingga hari ini kekal sebagai salah satu himpunan warisan paling signifikan di negara ini. Dalam fasa pemuliharaan semasa dari tahun 2024 hingga 2026, Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad dan Bangunan Pejabat Pos Besar Lama merupakan dua bangunan terawal yang menjalani kerja-kerja pemuliharaan, dengan bangunan lain menyusul dalam fasa seterusnya.<\/p><p>Direka oleh pasukan Jabatan Kerja Raya Selangor yang terdiri daripada A.C. Norman, R.A.J. Bidwell dan A.B. Hubbock, Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad menampilkan interpretasi tersendiri seni bina era British Raj dan pernah berfungsi sebagai pusat pentadbiran kolonial. Bersama Bangunan Pejabat Pos Besar Lama yang menyokong keperluan komunikasi dan operasi kerajaan, bangunan-bangunan ini menjadi saksi kepada detik-detik penting dalam sejarah Malaysia, termasuk peristiwa penurunan bendera Union Jack dan pengibaran bendera Persekutuan Tanah Melayu pada malam menjelang 31 Ogos 1957, yang menandakan peralihan negara ke arah kemerdekaan.<\/p><p>Selepas kemerdekaan, kedua-dua bangunan ini terus berkhidmat kepada masyarakat melalui pelbagai kegunaan kerajaan dan institusi, kekal sebagai sebahagian daripada kehidupan sivik bandar walaupun akses awam semakin terhad dari semasa ke semasa. Hari ini, bangunan-bangunan ini diiktiraf sebagai mercu tanda kebangsaan yang bernilai tinggi serta simbol penting perjalanan Malaysia menuju kedaulatan.<\/p><p>Sebagai sebahagian daripada program pemulihan berterusan, bangunan-bangunan ini sedang ditransformasikan semula sebagai ruang kreatif dan kebudayaan, membuka peluang kepada orang awam untuk akhirnya melangkah masuk dan mengalami sendiri tapak-tapak bersejarah ini selepas beberapa dekad akses yang terhad, sambil memastikan karakter seni bina dan kepentingan sejarahnya terus dipelihara dengan teliti.<\/p><p>Kerja-kerja pemulihan kini
